Nature Speaks Pottery Studio Is a 1,000 square foot fully equipped studio set in the mountains of Johnson County, TN. Nature Speaks has helped adults and children explore their creativity in clay since 2010.  We create warm welcoming spaces where students can thrive In our courses, workshops, open studio and events. Classes are open to children, 8 years old and up, and adults. In collaboration with other community and arts organizations, Nature Speaks strives to meet the creative needs of our wonderful and talented community.

Equipment available to students includes 5 wheels, a slab roller, glaze spray booth, 2 extruders, and 5 electric kilns. The studio has a wide variety of tools, stamps, molds, etc. for student use.

The Studio has trained, experienced, caring teachers to help students through their journey in clay. Courses, workshops and open studio opportunities are offered so that students can deepen their understanding of working with clay and have ample opportunities to improve their skills.

Courses and Workshops

Nature Speaks Studio offers courses and workshops covering a wide range of ceramic arts instruction. We offer introductory courses in both Hand Building and Wheel Throwing.

 

Some of the workshops offered include Ceramic Flowers, Extruded Oil Lamps and Lmpressed By Nature leaf dishes. Go to our classes page for a full description of each.

Open Studio

For individuals who know the fundamentals of hand building and/or wheel throwing and have completed at least one pottery course. Open studio is a 3-hour session set aside 3 days each week for students who want to improve and explore their creativity.

During Open Studio, Individuals work on independent projects. An experienced potter will be on hand to provide assistance if required.

Open Studio hours are Wednesdays 1-4 PM, Fridays 12-3 PM, Sundays 2-5 PM

In order to maintain a comfortable and creative environment spaces are limited for Workshops, Courses and Open Studio so pre-registration is required. 

**Clay is not included in Open Studio fee. Students must pay for clay used. Only clay purchased from Nature Speaks can be used.

Nature Speaks has a Co-op booth (#117) at Iron Horse Antiques and Collectibles (next to Food Lion in Mountain City, TN) where many students sell their creations. When in our area, please visit our booth. You'll find wonderful gifts for your loved ones and yourself.
